Please reach us at tattoo@botanicink.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
DO - Get a well rested night sleep.
DON’T - Stay up all night.
A well rested body is an alert and relaxed one! Showing up tired not only makes you feel rough, but your body can become much more sensitive to pain, causing you to move, body to react, prolonging your session even more, whilst potentially running out of time to complete your tattoo.
Take extra time and get that good nights sleep, you’ll thank yourself.
DO - Drink plenty of water and/or non caffeinated drink from the morning before up to the morning of your appointment.
DON’T - Dehydrate yourself/ Drink alcohol for at least 72hrs before your appointment.
Staying hydrated not only makes you feel great, but also hydrates your skin. Hydrated skin takes ink much smoother, making it less painful, less trauma, and heal better.
Under the influence of alcohol thins your blood, prolonging your session, and causing poor healing.
DO - Eat a large dinner the night before, a substantial breakfast the morning of, and bring snacks to your appointment.
DON’T - Skip meals or graze prior.
A happy tummy = a happy mind.
Allowing yourself a balanced and healthy meal, prior to your appointment, will give you the energy you need for your session. We don’t want anyone getting light headed do we!
Sugary snacks during your session is highly advised to prevent low-blood sugar.
DO - Shower before your appointment.
DON’T - Show up stinking.
A somewhat obvious one, but clean skin is very important to help aid the process and healing of your tattoo. And no one wants a sweaty betty.
DO - On the day, leave the shaving and moisturising for your artist.
DON’T - Shave the tattoo area, or moisturise the morning of your appointment.
Shaving the area 2-3 times per week prior to your appointment can prevent ingrown hairs coming through during the healing period. If you have some hair the day of your appointment, please leave this down to your artist to make sure it is done properly.
Moisturising your skin the morning of your appointment can cause issues during your session - please moisturise the weeks leading up to your appointment instead to allow a smooth tattoo process.
DO - Reach out to your artist for guidance.
DON’T - Show up in tight clothes that you can not remove.
Depending on the area that is being tattooed, depends on what is best to wear on the day. You’ll want your comfiest clothing, that has easy access for the tattoo - and not afraid to get them dirty with the odd ink splash maybe.
DO - Liaise with your GP, and artist, about any medication you’re on at the time of booking and near to your appointment date.
DON’T - Come to your appointment under the influence of drugs, or tell us the day of your appointment any medical concerns.
Certain medications, illnesses, and being under the influence can cause a variety of issues during and after your session. It is within our best interest that you’re fit and healthy whilst in our duty of care, and the medical section on your consent form is filled truthfully, so we are aware and can prepare for any medical emergencies.
Not to mention, making sure steps are in place to allow you to have a beautifully well crafted tattoo that heals perfectly!
If you arrive under the influence of drugs, you will be turned away, and your deposit will be lost!
DO - Liaise with your artist beforehand.
DON’T - Show up to your appointment with numbing cream, without discussing it with your artist.
Numbing cream can play a huge factor in the tattoo process and poor healing. Whilst it may help you, it doesn’t with us. Yes everyone reacts to numbing cream differently, but we can not guarantee how it’ll affect your session until it’s too late. Talk to your artist!
DO - Leave your fresh tattoo alone
DON’T - Pick, scratch, itch, or wear tight clothing.
It’s crucial to leave your tattoo alone, especially when it’s scabbing. Annoying we know, but any friction can cause scabs to come off early, reopening the wound, and healing patchy. Moisturising will help soothe the itch.
DO - Avoid sun/ heat exposure, apply SPF.
DON’T - Sun bathe, use sun beds, fake tan with a fresh tattoo.
Your new tattoo is already inflamed, and you want to cook it even more? Leave it be, apply SPF, and allow it to heal. Trauma on top of trauma is a no-no.
DO - Take quick showers.
DON’T - Go swimming, use saunas, hot tubs, or soak in a bath with a fresh tattoo.
A tattoo is an open wound. Wait for the scabbing/ silver skin to naturally disappear until you do that. You’re asking for an infection and poor healing.
DO - Politely ask your artist for advice.
DON’T - Demand for a free touch up.
Our artists are professionals, who work for themselves, with their own T&Cs. Some of the artists may offer a free touch up within a certain period (not guaranteed), but will be charged if you have not upheld your duty of care once you have left the premises.
Reach out to your artist for their Terms & Conditions.
